UK resettlement schemes funding panel Information and eligibility

North Somerset Council have been supporting refugee resettlement since 2016. Initially through the Vulnerable Person Resettlement Scheme (VPRS), for families affected by the war in the Mina Region Syria, and in the last 18 months the Council has proceeded to support:

  • Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy (ARAP) – for families working for the British Consulate in Afghanistan
  • Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS) – Afghan Citizens who have assisted the UK efforts in Afghanistan vulnerable groups
  • Homes for Ukraine Scheme – individuals/families affected by the war in Ukraine

The United Kingdom Resettlement Scheme (UKRS) will increase opportunities for support in North Somerset by funding projects that improve the orientation and integration of individuals and families arriving in the local area. The UKRS supports both the transition and progression of those who have resettled, particularly in regard to engagement with the community, employment opportunities, and creating a safe and supportive environment to rebuild their lives.

North Somerset have developed a funding panel to review applications for projects and initiatives which support individual’s and families’ resettlement and allocate funding provided by the UKRS.

Aim

The aim of this panel is to oversee proposals for innovative, creative, outcome-focussed interventions and activities for individuals and families – this could be children, adults or both.

These interventions will be targeted and delivered in conjunction with the work of the UK Resettlement Scheme Team to build on existing projects.

The interventions can be used to address specific identified groups of individuals, communities, and the environment. Examples include:

  • Health and Wellbeing activities
  • Mentoring/Coaching
  • Outdoor activities
  • Sports activities
  • Orientation initiatives
  • Integration initiatives

The panel will also review applications for resources and equipment which enhances engagement with individuals and families and join up of local services.

The panel will assess applications, decide on successful applicants and confirm the amount of funding to be received. Successful applicants will be expected to report on the outcomes achieved to ensure future funding is targeted at the most effective intervention, resources, and equipment.
