West of England Music Therapy

West of England Music Therapy (part of North Somerset Council Music Service) provide 1:1 and family music therapy for children and adults.

Our team of qualified (Master's level in Music Therapy) and accredited (HCPC) therapists work in settings across North Somerset and the wider region. Most of our work is in schools with clients under 18 years. We also offer therapy to adults in the community and NHS settings.

Music therapy is recognised as an effective psychological intervention in the care of children, young people and adults with mental illness. It can have a positive impact on negative symptoms experienced with a mental health illness, such as motivation, social withdrawal and diminished responsiveness. Music therapy can support and enable people with mental health problems to manage their condition.

Music therapists use music to make connections with their clients. Music can be used to help us re-engage, to motivate ourselves, to uplift,  to be with pain and to re-calibrate our mental and physical selves.

Music therapists use music to communicate and to explore the emotional world of the  client. Music is an immediate way to connect with someone else and get a response without a need to use words. A dialogue through the music can quickly be built, and soundscapes explored in  many different musical styles.

Our Team of music therapists offer a range of skills, experience and methods of delivering  music therapy with different age groups.
