Child Tax Credit (CTC is for families who are responsible for one child or qualifying young person. You should claim if you have a child or qualifying young person who usually lives with you. You do not have to be working to claim CTC.
Working Tax Credit
Working Tax Credit (WTC) is for people who are employed or self employed (either on their own or in a business partnership), who
- Usually works 16 or more hours per week
- Is paid for that work
- Expects to work for at least 4 weeks
The general rule is that to qualify for tax credits you must be aged 16 or over and usually live in the United Kingdom.
Childcare Element of Working Tax Credit
As part of Working Tax Credit you may qualify for help towards the costs of childcare. If you qualify, the amount of help you receive will depend on your income.
