Buddy Scheme - currently under review

The Buddy Scheme is designed to provide a service to children and young people with a range of additional needs to support them in accessing social and leisure activities in the community, for example youth clubs, and other clubs such as Beavers, Brownies,
Rainbows etc.

Buddies are often young people who have been recruited from local schools, colleges and universities. They may have worked as a Buddy at our specialist activities, Clubs and play schemes during the school holidays.

All Buddies receive training in Safeguarding as part of their induction and further training through their continuous professional development.  A DBS check and references are obtained, and Buddies are selected through a safer recruitment process.

Can my son or daughter have a Buddy?

This service requires a referral, Parents/carers can self-refer to this service.  Parents must register their child on the Disabled Children's Register before requesting a buddy.

To request a Buddy please complete the Buddy request form.

The process to be allocated a buddy is the outcome of a brief assessment to ensure this service is appropriate to meet your child/young person’s needs.

Please note:  a supervised club or activity session must already be identified with regular sessions, (this could be weekly or fortnightly).
