Description

Winford Village Pre School’s Local Offer for children with Special Educational Needs

How will Winford Village Pre School know if my child needs extra help?

At Winford Village Pre School, we pride ourselves in our high staff:child ratio which enables our staff to have smaller key groups which in turn enables all staff to really get to know their key children.

Staff complete regular observations and assessments on their key children, and assessments are regularly shared with parents.  Together these allow staff to identify any areas of concern they may have, which may indicate that a child has special educational needs.

All staff recognise the importance of early identification and intervention in providing the correct provision of a child with special educational needs.

How will I be included in my child’s education and curriculum?

Parent’s communication is valued and the key person will work together with the parents to ensure that every child’s learning is supported.  Parents are invited to regular meetings to review their child’s progress.

Each child has their own Learning Diary, at Winford Village Pre School we use an on line system called Tapestry.  Parents/Carers are encouraged to work together with the key person by commenting on and adding any observations to their child’s on line learning diary.  This helps to keep the key person informed of any new interests so that this can be incorporated in the activities that are planned for that child.

At the initial settling in sessions parents/carers will meet with their child’s key person to share any relevant information which will help the child settle into Pre School. We also ask parents/carers to complete a Child Profile which also helps the Key person to understand the child’s individual routines, needs, interests and abilities.

How will the staff support my child?

Natalie McLellan is our SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator) who has been trained to support the key person, child and families of any children with special educational needs to ensure that their individual needs are met.

We have robust policies and procedures in place that are regularly reviewed ensuring that our resources and environments are suitable and accessible for all.

Should any additional needs be identified the SENCO will support the key person to provide an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each individual child based around their abilities and interests. The IEP is monitored by the SENCO and regularly reviewed to ensure that the child’s needs are being met and that the additional support being provided is helping the child to progress.

The SENCO will also liaise with other professionals (with the parents’ consent) such as Early Years Inclusion Officers, Speech and Language Therapists and Health Visitors to gain further advice in supporting each individual child.  The SENCO and the key person will work collaboratively to ensure that these targets and strategies are implemented.

The plans and activities will be reviewed by the key person, SENCO and the parents regularly to update plans and provide support for all children.

How will my child be included in activities outside the Pre-School including outings?

No child will be excluded from an outing and all children will be encouraged to take part, we will make any adjustments that we are able to in order to assist with this. If we are planning an outing, and your child has special educational needs which means extra planning is required, the SENCO, or your child’s key person, will speak to you in advance to ensure that your child has the opportunity to take part and their needs are met.

What support will there be for my child’s overall well-being?

We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and friendly Pre-school, with a safe and stimulating environment that enriches your child’s learning and development. An environment where we can watch your children grow and flourish during their time with us, no matter whether they have special educational needs or not.

The positive relationship our staff have with our parents and children provides a caring environment that the children thrive in and feel safe and secure, enabling them to play, explore and interact with other children. This all leads to an environment where the children can learn best and their individual needs be met.

Many of our staff are trained first aiders, which along with our administering medicines policy means we can continue to administer your child’s medication if required to, with the aid of your health visitor we will draw up an appropriate care plan. All first aid training is regularly updated.

How accessible is Winford Village Pre School?

Winford Village Pre School is set within a purpose built part of Winford Primary School that is mainly on one level. The setting is accessible for wheelchairs from the outdoor classroom into the playroom. There is a disabled parking bay in the school’s carpark which the Pre School can use.

If you have any further questions about what we can offer to support you and your child at Winford Village Pre School please do not hesitate to contact us, we are happy to help.
