Windwhistle Primary School - Pre-school class

Windwhistle Pre-school Class offers quality care and education for 3-4 year-olds. The Pre-school class is led by a qualified teacher alongside Senior Pre-school Nurses qualified to Level 3 or above.

“Children ‘make good progress … because of the high-quality teaching and personal support they receive’ and ‘are encouraged to form positive relationships’ (Ofsted, 2014).

The Pre-school is situated in a light and spacious purpose-built building. The large, secure outside area has a large ‘safety’ surface and a wide range of play equipment for children to explore; such as a climbing wall, a ‘hobbit hole’ and sandpit. Children are supported to access carefully planned resources and activities to enrich children’s experiences, match their interests and meet their developmental needs. Small group times and targeted adult-led activities complement the support given to children during child-initiated play to ensure children make good progress. Children are assigned a key worker who is primarily responsible for their development as well as making sure they feel safe and cared for. Each child has a digital learning journey record which chronicles each child’s learning and development, in partnership with parents or carers. We work closely with our colleagues in Windwhistle school reception class to prepare children for a smooth transition to school.

All children aged 3 or 4 years old are eligible for free early education for up to 15 hours a week and we also cater for children whose parents are eligible for 30 hour funding (please visit governments Childcare Choices to see if you qualify). Children can join Windwhistle School Pre-school Class the term following their 3rd birthday. We offer morning and afternoon sessions during term-time; and extended care through either the 30 hour eligibility or through bought sessions. We can also provide flexible or extended care through accessing the school’s breakfast and after school club.

Please visit our website to see our Pre-school class in action. Visits are very welcome and ‘stay and play’ taster sessions can be arranged too. Please contact the Pre-school Class teacher on 01934 629145 for more information. We look forward to meeting you!
