Community Befriending Scheme

The Community Befriending Scheme aims to provide companionship for older people who have become socially isolated. The scheme is run by a Community Befriending Officer with a group of trained volunteers.

 Who is the scheme for?

Anyone aged 6o or over who resides in Sandford, Winscombe, Banwell, Curchill & Langford. Referrals from neighbouring areas will be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to availability of volunteers.

What can we do?

Our volunteers can visit an older person in their own home once a week for a maximum of one hour to provide company and conversation.

 All our volunteers:

  • Receive specialist training provided by St Monica Trust and undergo DBS checks
  • Are matched to older people living in their area and travel expenses are reimbursed
  • Are flexible with their visiting times
  • Commit to an initial visiting period of six months
