High Down Junior School was opened in 1968 and currently has 361 children on roll. The school overlooks the picturesque Gordano Valley and is set in extensive grounds with playing fields, an environment area, adventure play area, skittle alley, large chess set and a conservation area. The school serves not only the town of Portishead but also many of the surrounding villages.
The school runs before and after school clubs as well as a holiday club.
