Rated as GOOD in all areas by Ofsted February 2022, we are a North Somerset Council-run nursery for children aged 0-5 years.

"Children are happy and excited as they arrive at nursery. Children are keen and curious to explore the resources that staff provide."

Our Early Years qualified and motivated staff team provide a stimulating, child-focused learning environment that offers enriched experiences and supports all children's learning and development.

"Leaders implement an ambitious curriculum which foxuses on children's interests, and what they already know to promote further learning. |They set high expectations for all children to learn and achieve" OFSTED 2022

We take full advantage of our woodland setting and outside spaces, where forest school-style activities take place. There is a large vegetable garden, grass play areas and all-weather playgrounds.

At Early Birds we recognise and value the importance of working with parents/carers and families to best support each individual child's needs, OFSTED commented that Parent partnerships are well established and strong. Parents are very pleased with the care that their children recieve.

Description

How does the setting know if a child needs extra help and what should I do if I think my child may have special educational needs? How do you identify children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)? How will I be able to raise any concerns I may have?

Each child has a key person whose role it is to develop a close and sensitive relationship with the parents. If a parent has any concerns about their child's development this information should be shared with the key person. The key person will be responsible for regular observations and assessments that link to the early years development matters ‘age and stage’ of development.

If the key person has identified a possible individual need, this will be discussed with you and together you can plan how best to support the child. The nursery INCCO (Inclusion Coordinator) may be asked for advice in order to support the key person and your child. The INCCO may also liaise with other professionals, with your permission, such as the Area SENCO, the Speech and Language Therapist, the Children's Centre or the Health Visitor. This advice might involve meetings, assessments and reports in order to enable the key person to plan for the individual needs of your child.

Staff are alert to emerging needs and respond early, liaising with parents at every level of identification, as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Your child's development will be regularly evaluated and the nursery INCCO may be asked for advice if this is felt necessary in order to plan appropriately for your child's individual needs. As parents, you will always be included in planning for your child's needs.

The leadership team are responsible for all the practices and policies relating to inclusion, i.e. that they are current and fully implemented. We will ensure that the staff team have access to training. We provide an environment that is enabling for all children and is stimulating and nurturing. We aim to create a positive environment that values and respects each child and we welcome families to be part of the nursery and share in their children's learning. Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities will be integrated alongside all children and we endeavour to make sure the child gets the support they need. This is maintained by making reasonable adjustments to provision where possible to prevent children with SEND being put at a disadvantage. All Early years providers have these duties under the Equality Act 2010.We encourage our staff to have regular, honest and meaningful communications with parents and to share information, with external agencies, if it is in the child's best interests.
