Team North Somerset

We are proud to be a part of the exciting West of England Works programme, which is led by Weston College and funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and European Social Fund, and is part of the national Building Better Opportunities programme. This is our main focus from January 2017 until June 2022 as we seek to provide more employment and education opportunities for people across North Somerset.

Our programme of support is individualised according to the needs of each of our participants.

Our support network is open to people who are currently unemployed, over 15 and have a national insurance number. We will support you if you are facing challenges that make gaining employment tricky, and can support you by teaching new skills, help you gain work experience and secure a job. These challenges may include:

  • Caring responsibilities
  • Homelessness
  • Ex-offending
  • Drug or alcohol recovery
  • Few or no qualifications
  • Family, parenting or relationship problems
  • Mental health
  • Learning difficulties and/or disabilities

Eligibility:

  • Economically inactive
  • Facing multiple challenges
  • Provide identification - current or expired passport or a birth certificate
  • Letter confirming benefit entitlement and NI number.

You can access our free and confidential services and support at our central hub or at one of our outreach points across North Somerset.

Team North Somerset will help you to:

  • Make new friends
  • Improve your confidence and wellbeing
  • Access one-to-one support, advice and guidance
  • Take part in a range of different activities
  • Meet employers at our special events
  • Find voluntary work, gain training and enrol onto relevant courses
  • Carry out independent job searches using computers
  • Practice job interviews
  • Feel ready for employment

Our activities:
Each participant will be assigned to a Wellbeing and Work Coach who will work with them on a 1 to 1 basis either at our hub or somewhere in the community where they are comfortable.

Solutions for You
Solutions for You has been designed for our participants to grow in confidence, practice conversation techniques and learn how to become proactive.

This programme will run once a week and is an ideal introduction to learning.

Solutions for Work
The participants will then move on to Solutions for Work, which is held over 2 sessions a week. This programme focusses on managing change, recognising skills and qualities, building a CV, preparing for interviews and developing skills for work.

Job club
We run a job club on a Friday morning where we support our participants to learn basic computer skills, search for and apply for work.

Activity week
At the end of Solutions for You and Solutions for Work we then have an activity week. During activity week we organise a variety of things, such as a day trip to Goblin Coombe, a beach walk, quiz afternoon, a session on healthy eating or a colour therapy workshop, amongst other things. We also take our participants on a Job Search Treasure Hunt where they learn to make a speculative approach to employers for jobs and volunteering opportunities.
