At ABC I use a combination of talking, play and creative therapies for children, but unlike many types of therapy, I also involve parents and caregivers in the process. Whether it's mental health concerns, behavioral issues or a problem relating to family or school/college I find including parent/child relationship therapy enables quicker results and long-term solutions. Typically, parents interested in this type of therapy have exhausted traditional parenting strategies and are looking for help and support for themselves as well as their children.
My work includes helping families with an autism diagnosis (ASD) to develop strategies to better understand their child. I'm a Certified Autplay Provider and also work with symptoms of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), ADHD, and behavioural difficulties both at home and school, including school refusal, bullying and anxiety and depression. It can be really difficult when you feel there's no-one to turn to when your child is struggling. But, by using adaptable person-centered therapies, strategies and treatment plans (which include parents/caregivers and schools for additional support) I can help children to get back on-track and build resilience for the future.
