May 2021 Local Area Revisit
Ofsted and CQC revisited North Somerset duing May 2021 to check on progress. This would normally have occurred during 2020, but was delayed due to the Covid-19 related restrictions.
The Inspectiors found that partners in the local area has made sufficient progress against two of the eight areas of weakness, and while progress had been made on the remaining six children and families were not yet benefiting directly from this.
The letter from the inspection team can be read at the Ofsted website.
We will now develop an Accelerated Progress Plan, which will be submitted to the Department for Education and NHS England for approval.
May 2018 Local Area Review
Ofsted & CQC visited North Somerset between 14 and 18 May 2018.

The North Somerset Local Area was required to develop a Written Statement of Action to address the range of weaknessed identified during the inspection. This was submitted to OfSTED and CQC, who accepted it as fit for purpose on 17th October 2018.
About the review
Under the Children and Families Act 2014, the government placed new duties on the local health, social care and education services that provide for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities. The inspection evaluated how effectively the local area:
- identifies the needs of children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities
- meets the needs of these children and young people so that their outcomes and chances of participating fully in society improve.
Information on local area duties toward children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities can be found on the Department for Education’s website.
